Before you spend $$$ to buy a bunch of pills, powders, juices, etc., let’s discuss how to determine if your body is ready for one of these aggressive programs or whether a gentler approach would be of greater benefit to you.
The amazing and complex organism we refer to as the human body is designed to detoxify itself. Your body is detoxifying itself right now. Yes, right now! All day. Every day. Which is pretty cool if you ask me.
Let’s start by determining if your detox pathways are open. Why? If your detox pathways are not open, the toxins you are trying to flush out cannot efficiently exit your body. This means the toxins end up getting recirculated and may manifest as a variety of symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, migraines, confusion, difficulty concentrating, acne, skin rashes, nausea, and the list goes on.
Ok, brace yourself, I know many people don’t like to talk about poop, pee, and sweat but guess what? Those are ways your body releases toxins! Don’t worry, you don’t have to discuss this with me or anyone else if you don’t want to. However, you should be honest with yourself because your answers to the following questions will let you know whether your body can handle an aggressive protocol or if you are better suited for something more gradual and gentler.
It’s common to have difficulty sweating freely, being constipated and/or dehydrated. What does this mean? It means that you are better suited for a gentle program to support your natural detoxification processes.
If you find your detox pathways are not functioning optimally, then I would recommend a gradual approach. Consider switching up the items on your grocery list to remove food-related roadblocks to a well-functioning detox system. I mean, you were already planning to buy food anyway, right? Ditch foods that are high in sugar and processed convenience foods. Increase colorful, organic, non-starchy veggies. Cook more meals at home. This will reduce the things that prevent your detox system from operating at its best and bring in the nutrients it needs to serve you well.
